How to pick your 9 PS2 games
The PS2 sold more than 150 million consoles and has thousands of games, so nine is a hard cut. A grid that says something about you usually mixes a few of the big names with one or two games nobody else seems to remember. Four shelves to start from:
The long RPGs
Final Fantasy X was the first Final Fantasy with voice acting. Final Fantasy XII, Dragon Quest VIII, Kingdom Hearts and Persona 3 and 4 are the games people lost whole summers to. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is the one for players who wanted it harder.
Cities and brawlers
Vice City and San Andreas, then Bully and The Simpsons: Hit & Run for a smaller town. God of War, God of War II and Devil May Cry 3 cover the hack-and-slash side; Spider-Man 2 is still remembered for its web-swinging.
Second controller games
Tekken 5, Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Burnout 3, TimeSplitters 2, SSX 3 and Guitar Hero II. If a game only made sense with a friend on the couch, it earns a square.
The strange ones
Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Ōkami, Katamari Damacy and Silent Hill 2. None of them play like anything else on the console, which is why they keep turning up in PS2 lists twenty years later.

Can I put PS1 games on my PS2 grid?
Yes. The PS2 ran most PS1 discs, so plenty of people count them. Switch the search from PS2 only to All platforms and add any game. If you would rather keep them apart, the PS1 page saves its own grid.
Why is Resident Evil 4 on both the PS2 and GameCube pages?
It came out on both: first on GameCube in early 2005, then on PS2 later that year. Our game data keeps one entry per game across consoles, so the same Resident Evil 4 counts as a PS2 game here. TimeSplitters 2 works the same way.
How were the PS2 games in the list chosen?
We started from the PS2 games with the most player ratings on IGDB, then added favorites that rarely top charts, such as Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Ace Combat 04 and Sly Cooper. It is a starting point, not a ranking. The search covers the rest of the PS2 library.
Will my PS2 grid replace the one on the homepage?
No. This page keeps its own draft in your browser, so your PS2 nine and your all-time nine can exist side by side and be shared separately.
